Programme overview

World trade has become increasingly important: continuous improvements in technology have brought unprecedented flows of resources and capital across national boundaries; foreign direct investment is growing; and the competitive pressures on many industries and firms have intensified.

The MSc International Business Management programme will enable you to understand how firms become, and remain, international in scope in the face of such challenges.

You will learn to apply management theories and techniques pertinent to managing and controlling a multinational business environment with an increasing focus on the management of responsibility and ethics for businesses operating in a global context.

New research findings, case studies and comparative perspectives on the management of internationally operating firms will deepen your appreciation of why, and how, the local adaptation of business and management concepts developed elsewhere is crucial.

Programme structure

This programme is studied full-time over one academic year. It consists of eight taught modules and a dissertation.

Educational aims of the programme

This Masters program features the latest thinking and developments in international strategy, as well as emerging issues in international business such as the rise of emerging market multinationals and global innovation.

It also includes modules that develop essential skills and knowledge for understanding and analyzing international business.

The programme provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, skills, qualities and other attributes in the following areas:

Knowledge and understanding

Students will gain knowledge and understanding of:

  • Globalization and its external drivers
  • Marketing strategies for global firms
  • Human resource management strategies for global firms
  • Principals for accounting and finance
  • International trade and key policy parameters

Intellectual / cognitive skills

Upon completing the programme, students will:

  • Understand business and finance related materials on globalization
  • Develop ability and skills to collect qualitative and quantitative data
  • Develop dynamic and multiple perspective in understanding business strategies, and their consequences on stakeholders

Professional practical skills

Students will have the ability to:

  • Collect and organize information
  • Communicate and present confidently
  • Display team-work sills including collaboration and negotiation

Key / transferable skills

  • Learn by self-reflection and self-testing of theoretical knowledge and understanding against practical situations and empirical data
  • Communicate effectively with peers and academics

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally hold a Bachelors degree (a UK 2.2) or an equivalent qualification from a British or overseas university.

If an applicant’s Bachelors degree is not in a subject related to the MSc, some relevant work experience would be an advantage. Higher level professional qualifications may also be accepted. Each applicant is assessed on their own merit.
