Since welcoming our first PhD students back in 1971, the School has become the leading institution in the UK for hospitality, tourism and events research, with currently over 40 doctoral students from around the globe.

A unique research experience
PhD students get the chance to work alongside leading academics with access to unrivalled mentoring and teaching opportunities. Our Research Development Programme provides sessions on various topics related to forward-looking research approaches and training, such as writing for publication, research grant writing and creating research impact.
The programme also offers a range of interactive workshops throughout the year, exploring topics such as personal effectiveness, information skills, presenting research and job skills. Students also get the chance to present and discuss their research at our weekly research seminars.
Resources and facilities
Each student is allocated their own office space and computer, access to academic and business databases and a range of online research tools and resources.
Career support is available throughout the PhD programme, preparing candidates for a future in academia and industry. Many of our graduates have gone on to be leading academics at other illustrious institutions around the world.
