"I feel that Surrey really strives to create employable professionals, with the knowledge and experience to succeed."

What attracted you to choose the University of Surrey?

The main things which attracted me to Surrey were the placement opportunities, the world-class facilities and the friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

Business Management provided a broad insight into the fundamental components of the business world, with modules ranging from marketing to accounting, HR to employment law.

The ability to tailor the degree to personal interests was particularly valuable, with a well-balanced combination of lectures and seminars from experienced lecturers from around the world

What was the most rewarding thing about your Placement Training Year?

Working and living in Her Majesty the Queen's official London residence, Buckingham Palace, brought with it a year of exciting and rewarding experiences.

My hospitality placement gave me the once in a lifetime opportunity to work closely alongside the Royal Family, serving at state banquets and garden parties and looking after royal guests. Dancing with the Queen at a Scottish ball and meeting Prince Harry were among some of my most treasured memories!

How did you change as a person during your time as a Surrey Business School student?

I would say I'm a completely different person from when I arrived as a fresher back in 2011. I threw myself into University life, making the most of every arising opportunity, shaping me into the person I am today.

Over the 4 years, I saw my self-confidence grow, and not only did I leave Surrey feeling well-equipped for the corporate world but I left with many lifelong friends, some much cherished memories and a sense of pride.

What impact did your experience at Surrey have upon your career?

Above all, I felt that Surrey really strives to create employable professionals, with the knowledge and experience to succeed. My interest in HR stemmed from a number of modules which lead me to choose a career in the field, with my professional training year enhancing my transferable skills.

What is your strongest or happiest memory of your time at Surrey?

Without a doubt, graduation. Whilst extremely sad to leave, there was no better feeling than collecting my degree alongside my course mates and family. Closely followed by some unforgettable nights in Rubix, the Students Union.
