"My course has done extremely well in equipping me with the skills and knowledge to enter the financial services industry with competence and aptitude."

Course

Accounting and Finance BSc (Hons)

Entry year

2015

"I was initially attracted to study at Surrey because of the calibre of the university’s careers centre; which helps a high proportion of students with securing placements. With the assistance of the university, I managed to secure a Professional Training placement at IBM and followed this with a summer internship at Lloyds Banking Group. This vastly improved my skill set and my attractiveness to future employers; something I couldn’t have attained without the university.

Alongside the careers centre, the university has an excellent campus and a brilliant students union. From a wide variety of societies to join and a student focused nightlife, there really is a taste for everyone.

I chose to study Accounting & Finance because of my interests in the finance world and my desire to improve my understanding of it. Throughout my university experience I have expanded my knowledge around international politics and the influences these have on the financial services industry, alongside developing my technical finance skills.

"One of my best experiences so far has to be being awarded a place on a competitive exchange programme within my second year."

In addition, this course provided me access to Bloomberg Terminals within the business school. This has allowed me to spend valuable time learning practical skills applicable to the industry as well as the theoretical aspect. One of my best experiences so far has to be being awarded a place on a competitive exchange programme within my second year.

I was chosen to attend an exchange semester at the University of Sydney based on the calibre of my application. During my time there, I managed to travel around all the states of Australia and around parts of Indonesia. This has boosted my personal skills and employability because I am able to demonstrate an ability to adapt to new environments, whilst also succeeding and being the best I can be.

My course has done extremely well in equipping me with the skills and knowledge to enter the financial services industry with competence and aptitude. It has not just provided me with the classroom knowledge, but has given me invaluable professional experience. I look forward to what my career will bring as an alumni of the University of Surrey."
