"Having already studied at Surrey for my undergraduate degree, I knew that Surrey offered great teaching, amazing facilities and most importantly, highly reputable research."

"I have always had a particular interest in animal health, and my undergraduate course further confirmed that I wanted to pursue a career within this field. I studied my undergraduate degree in Veterinary Biosciences at the University of Surrey in 2010-2014, which included a Professional Training placement. I completed my placement year at The Pirbright Institute which is where I am now based studying for my PhD.

Following graduation, I worked as a research assistant but soon realised I wanted greater career progression and more freedom on what I wanted to study, hence why I decided to do a PhD.

Having already studied at Surrey for my undergraduate degree, I knew that Surrey offered great teaching, amazing facilities and most importantly, highly reputable research. Surrey has fantastic collaborations which was vital for my PhD as I am based at one of the collaborating institutes.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Surrey so far and despite not being based full-time on campus I always feel welcome and included.

My supervisors are experts in their field and are research-driven which has really aided my own research and PhD studies. They are very involved in my project and offer valuable advice and guidance.

I am based at a collaborating partner, The Pirbright Institute, which has allowed me to gain experience from two fantastic research sites. I also have an industrial partner which helped sponsor my PhD studentship and will give me a great insight to the industrial field of research when I complete my three month placement there.

I have really enjoyed making the most of all the leisure facilities at Surrey and in particular, Surrey Sports Park. There is always something to do and it is a very social environment.

I have now lived in Guildford for seven years since moving here for my undergraduate degree. I love the town centre with its great range of shops and lots of places to eat. It is also very useful to visit London where some of my friends are, just a short train journey away. I also love the beautiful countryside Surrey has to offer, which is a nearby escape from Guildford centre. I keep my own horse at a stables near to Guildford and often ride at many different scenic spots and national trust sites, as well as travelling to the many competition venues which are in close proximity.

Currently I aim to continue with my research as a postdoctorate, but I am also interested in exploring roles related to science communication/liaison officer. I enjoy communicating the science I do to farmers and those that benefit from my research and perhaps would like to pursue this further."
