What attracted you to choose Surrey and to study your course here?

I studied for my Bachelor’s at the University of Surrey so knew what the University had to offer. The course was exactly what I was looking for; the core modules provided a well-rounded curriculum and the choice of elective modules allowed me to tailor the course to my specific requirements.

Aside from the course itself, the University has a great mix of students from across the globe; it was fantastic to meet and share experiences with people from different backgrounds and cultures and adds a lot to your learning experience.

What is your strongest memory of your time at Surrey – what do you picture first when you think of being here?

It’s hard to pick one memory however, if I had to pick one I would say the fantastic friends I made from across the globe.

Additionally the course itself and what I learnt. I especially enjoyed the International Trade and Economics module as well as my fantastic and supportive mentor who I still keep in touch with today.

What is the one thing you would say about Surrey (or your course) to someone who doesn’t know anything about it?

Surrey has the top employment record in the country; the cultural diversity of the university is excellent especially when studying an internationally focused degree. It’s an excellent course for anyone who wants to pursue a career in general management, work for a multi-national or work in an international role. I would highly recommend this University and this course.

How did you change as a person during your time as a Surrey postgraduate, and how has your time here influenced your life and career since then?

During the postgraduate year I had opportunities to do learn and do new things; these opportunities came from not only the course itself but wider university life (clubs, activities etc.). I am more confident in general as a result and specifically more confident in taking opportunities even if they seem a little daunting at first; this has definitely allowed me to take on some wonderful roles in my career so far.

Meeting and living with people from all different cultures at Surrey has also been hugely beneficial when working abroad especially in a role where I have to work with different teams from different countries.

What has been your career highlight to date?

I have been very fortunate with my career to date with many highlights. I was lucky enough to become the lead project manager for Click & Collect for Tesco upon completing their Business Leadership Graduate Scheme. However, my top highlight has to be as Senior eCommerce Manager for Tesco Lotus. The opportunity to work and live abroad, launch a new business venture and then lead a business unit is definitely my highlight to date.

What are your top tips for students aspiring to work in your profession?

  • Have confidence in yourself
  • Take opportunities
  • Don’t stop developing yourself; learning new skills or improving on current ones
  • A director once told me “If you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always got” - it’s very true.
