"When I first started my studies at Surrey I was enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering degree but, as I started to get to know myself and my professional goals better, I concluded that I would feel more fulfilled studying Automotive Engineering.
Automotive engineering not only teaches you to be a problem solver and think efficiently and effectively, but the programme once completed leaves you with a significant number of skills that enable you to get a job in the most well-known motorsport companies.
This was the first year of the subject at Surrey, and so there was a lot of learning from the students as well as staff to make the degree the best possible. I believe that the passion of the students enrolled and the teaching staff was the main factor for the success of the subject.
The Automotive Engineering degree at Surrey is incredibly balanced between theoretical and practical work, which allows you to apply your knowledge to a variety of practical activities such as the design, manufacture and assemble of an electric Formula Student vehicle. This group project was a unique opportunity to learn more about electric vehicles and present developments on the subject, as it is the future of technology in cars.
Living on campus was a good way to smooth the transition from living with your parents to living by yourself - you get to share the kitchen with five other amazing people.
It is the perfect occasion to meet new people and make your first friends at university. And a great advantage is that you live right by the University with easy access to the Library, Surrey Sports Park, Tesco, and of course Rubix.
While I was at Surrey, I joined some of the University clubs such as swimming, surfing and karting. I found that it was a fun way to keep myself active and the best part is that you get to be active with your best friends. The clubs become almost like a family.
So far my greatest achievement of 2017 was getting my dream job at one of the most recognised companies in the automotive industry, and I couldn’t have done it without all the opportunities Surrey offers for self-development and technical knowledge growth.
I strongly believe that I have become a more independent, hard-working, and charismatic person after experiencing the “uni life” at Surrey. Although a degree is very demanding and sometimes stressful, it is also the best time of your life. I made friends for life and created a network which may be very useful in the future.”
