Medical Imaging

"Having studied for my undergraduate degree in Sheffield, I was given the opportunity to continue my higher education in the UK by the government of my home country (Kuwait). I chose to come to Surrey partly as I was keen to experience what the south of England had to offer – and because it’s one of the leading universities in the UK.

My motivation for studying on the MSc Medical Imaging programme was to expand my knowledge and aptitude in medical imaging in order to provide a safe environment for patients. I think this field offers the perfect combination – you get the chance to help people and also to learn the nature of how healthcare works.

The MSc Medical Imaging programme teaches you the fundamental mathematical, scientific and engineering principles used in this discipline. I’m very much enjoying the practical side of the course, in particular, and the opportunity to collaborate with students from other courses who share my modules.

The staff on my programme are approachable and friendly, and they’re quick to reply to our emails and questions. In fact there’s even an online discussion board on each module where you can post your questions. Also, many of the lectures are available on the University website, which is really useful during the exam period.

There are lots of good things about life at Surrey. I’ve found Surrey Sports Park a great way to mix with other people, with one of the biggest gyms I’ve ever seen. However if sport’s not your thing there are lots of other societies you can join, which organise interesting trips and events every week.

Another great thing about studying at Surrey as an international student is the support the University provides to students who speak English as a second language. It runs an English Language Support Programme (ELSP) every semester at no extra cost, which provides a wide variety of useful services. You can also enrol on free Global Graduate Award courses to learn other languages such as German, French or British Sign Language.

Once I’ve completed my Masters course, I hope to find a job where I can use my skills in the UK. My aim is to spend at least two years gaining experience here before returning to Kuwait."
