Course
International Hospitality and Tourism Management

"I’ve always had the ambition of being a general manager in high-end luxury hotels, so choosing this degree was a no-brainer for me.

The course perfectly combines the commercial aspects of the industry, with modules in finance, accounting, HR, etc, and hands-on practical experience with training at the on-campus Lakeside Restaurant, and the Professional Training placement.

I chose to study here simply because it’s been number one in the UK for hospitality and tourism for such a long time – I was determined to choose the best.

Also, I knew there’d be the opportunity to study abroad in my second year. Like most people doing this degree, travelling is an essential part of my life! I went to Hong Kong, which was incredible. For my Professional Training year I worked at the Marriott Park Lane, which really helped grow my professional network.

The major highlight of this degree was definitely my year abroad at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where I spent time at their training hotel - the 5-star Hotel ICON.

I also got to travel extensively throughout Southeast Asia. Meeting Mr Marriott and shaking his hand was an experience I’ll never forget.

After I graduate this year, I’ll be starting a Graduate Scheme with Marriott. I had such a great time on placement that I was desperate to stay on with the company after my time at Surrey. I’ll be working at the JW Grosvenor House on Park Lane as part of the Leadership Development Programme. I can’t wait!"
