Multimedia Security and Forensics

SCCS is leading research into multimedia security and digital forensics, helping to develop technical solutions to tackle cybercrimes such as online grooming and digital piracy. Our academics collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies such as Surrey Police, National Crime Agency, Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) and other government bodies in this field.

Recent work has included a collaboration with Surrey Police and Thales UK on forensic analysis of ANPR (automated number plate recognition) data; a project funded by the Intellectual Property Office aimed at countering unauthorised usage of digital media content; and a project investigating whether the language of online groomers can be detected automatically.
