Why is corporate health important?
Absenteeism (missing work days) is a major issue in the UK. The Office of National Statistics estimated that 131 million working days were lost in 2013; costing the UK economy approximately £32 billion per year. Current statistics estimate a loss of 4.4 days per employee per year, equating to a financial cost of absence of £659 per employee per year.
Presenteeism (reduced productivity whilst at work due to underlying issues) are considered to cost business more per day than absenteeism. Mental health is closely linked with presenteeism, with one in six employees in the UK being affected by a mental-health problem.
Our corporate services are designed to identify risk factors that increase the chance of developing health conditions associated with absenteeism and presenteeism. Analyses of the return on investment in corporate well-being programmes have demonstrated a benefit:cost ratio of up to 34:1, meaning that for every £1 spent on corporate health, up to £34 is saved.
