Staff Sustainability Survey

• A total of 167 staff took the survey.
• Covid-19 was considered the most serious problem out of a range of local and global issues, followed by climate change.
• Over 95 per cent of respondents agreed that sustainability should be one of the key considerations for universities in the UK.
• Over 90 per cent said that good sustainability credentials would make a university a more attractive place to work and study.
• Most respondents defined sustainability as responsible use of resources, and thought that there is a collective responsibility for implementing sustainability at the University of Surrey.

• Reducing waste and carbon emissions were seen as the most important characteristic of a sustainable university.
