Dr Sarvarian serves as delegate to United Nations body
Dr Arman Sarvarian, Reader in Public International Law at the School of Law, serves as delegate to United Nations body on investor-State dispute settlement reform.
In October 2021, Dr Sarvarian was appointed legal adviser and delegate of the Republic of Armenia to Working Group III of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law. The Working Group is mandated to develop proposals for reform to the system of investor-State dispute settlement until 2026. Active projects include: the legislation of a code of conduct for arbitrators; the creation of a permanent, multilateral investment court; the creation of an advisory centre for disputing parties; the promotion of mediation; and reforms to the arbitration rules of procedure. Meetings of the Working Group are typically held thrice per year at the Vienna International Centre and United Nations Headquarters. From 2019 to 2022, Dr Sarvarian also served as delegate to the Rules & Regulations Amendment Process of the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes, which resulted in the entry into force of the revised ICSID Arbitration Rules 2022, new rules for mediation and other products.
