Studying Music at Surrey

Music at Surrey offers three undergraduate single-honours degree programmes, each leading to the MMus. Applicants for all courses should enjoy and find fulfilment in learning about music: as an undergraduate at Surrey you will spend considerable time studying, performing and listening to music in a wide range of styles. 

In the 2012 National Student Survey, Music at Surrey took a clear top place in the UK, with results of 98% for both Overall Satisfaction and Teaching.

In the latest Research Assessment Exercise 75% of our research output was rated as international quality, of which 21% was world leading

You will benefit from:

The 3-year BMus offers a range of academic studies (including theory, history and analysis) as well as practical pursuits (performing, composing, conducting) and studies that combine the academic and the practical (orchestration, historical performance practice, etc.). The 4-year BMus offers a Professional Training Year for those wishing to gain experience in music management or administration.

Creative Music Technology provides excellent training in the musical application of computer technology, exploring a variety of contemporary musical styles and genres. Modules cover areas as diverse as film music, popular music, synthesis and sampling, electroacoustic music, jazz, dance music, the music industry, and multimedia. This programme prepares the student for a variety of career options.

In addition, a joint-honours degree is offered by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics:

Mathematics with Music - G1W3 (3 years) or G1WH (4 years)

leading to BSc (Hons)

Guildford School of Acting is part of the School of Arts, offering conservatoire  training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as short courses
