Why I chose Surrey

The University is ranked 2nd in the UK for food science* and is known for its academic excellence.

My course and life as a postgraduate student

The MSc Food Science provides a really great grasp on food science and incorporates nutrition which is great. The course covers aspects of food chemistry, gut health, new product development (NPD), food safety and more, all of which are highly important in the current food industry. The lecturers make the content interesting and exciting – they are very supportive and always make us aware of new opportunities. Overall, this course has been great in developing our knowledge, scientific research skills and practical skills, and I would highly recommend it.

Being a postgrad you are in a much smaller cohort which allows you to really get to know your lecturers better which is great! There’s lots of opportunities for postgrads too.

Looking ahead

I would love to become involved in developing food products for the UK major retailers.

If you're thinking of studying the Food Science MSc...

Do it! The course has not only allowed me to develop academically but has enabled other opportunities such as the Ecotrophelia UK competition, my current job and to stand out in graduate job roles.
