About us

In the community

With extensive connections to Guildford and the wider region, the University of Surrey plays a key role in contributing to the local community.

At Surrey, we value our relationship with the local community. When the University moved to Guildford from Battersea in 1966, the Surrey Advertiser welcomed our arrival as a way to"'balance the town's rapid commercial growth, help its cultural life to develop and assure its status".

Connecting with the community

We attract a wealth of high-calibre students, staff and partners who engage with Guidlford and the surrounding boroughs. Our students are involved in a number of community volunteering projects and our staff visit local schools to inspire the next generation.

45 per cent of our undergraduate students come from schools and colleges within the South East region.

Surrey Research Park

We are continually working hard to bring added value to those around us. Together with the Surrey Research Park, we support many small businesses and generate over a billion pounds of economic activity annually in the regional economy.

Surrey Sports Park

Every month, we host a programme of activities here on campus or at our premier sporting facility, Surrey Sports Park, which is accessible to members of the public.

Discover the University of Surrey

Our doors are always open and we would like all our neighbours to feel they can be part of the University and the wonderful things that happen here. Discover more about how to visit the University of Surrey.
