AWE and University of Surrey announce new strategic alliance
The University of Surrey and AWE have announced a new strategic alliance, driving innovation in nuclear science and technology through collaboration.
The University of Surrey joins the University of Bristol, Cranfield University, Heriot-Watt University, Imperial College London, The University of Manchester and the University of Strathclyde as AWE’s seventh strategic alliance university partner. The University of Surrey’s capabilities include nuclear threat reduction, radiological protection, quantum computation and ageing of engineering materials.
This alliance demonstrates a joint endeavour from AWE and Surrey to the ongoing development of cutting-edge technologies and capabilities – with the aim of strengthening the existing and vibrant research environment and inspiring future generations of scientists and engineers.
The partnership will enable AWE to enhance its access to leading academics, facilities and STEM training opportunities, as well as advanced research centres and their network of national industrial partners. It will enable Surrey to undertake an increasingly ambitious range of technical programmes.
I am delighted that the University of Surrey has become AWE’s strategic alliance partner. Our partnership with the university underscores a strong and continued investment in furthering our shared interests in areas such as engineering, quantum technologies, materials research and nuclear security to deliver future capability. We also have three outstanding William Penney Fellows based at the university whose commitment to discovery, innovation and collaboration will greatly benefit AWE’s critical mission.AWE Executive Director, Professor Andrew Randewich CBE
