Innovation through Technological Knowledge (iTEK) projects
Our iTEK (Innovation through Technology) programme, established with funding from the ERA Foundation, connects businesses with students from courses such as electronic engineering, AI, and data analysis. After coaching and training in intrapreneurship, students work in small teams to address innovation challenges set by SMEs in the electech space.
Taking part will give you the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to address meaningful business problems.
iTEK is ideal for students looking to build practical skills, gain exposure to business challenges, and gain confidence and commecrial awareness.

Engineers in Business Competition (EiBC) projects
The Engineers in Business Competition (EiBC), created by the Sainsbury Management Fellows, helps engineering students develop entrepreneurial thinking alongside their technical expertise. At Surrey, EiBC is embedded into select Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences (FEPS) modules, most commonly in the second semester.
Engineering students work in teams to develop innovative business concepts, applying their creativity, technological knowledge, and problem-solving skills to explore how ideas can be turned into viable ventures.
Alongside your technical expertise, you will gain valuable experience in teamwork, project management, leadership and pitching.
What to expect
- Projects embedded into select FEPS modules
- Experience in entrepreneurial thinking and business planning
- Dragon's Den-style pitch to present your concept
- Prizes: £1,500 (first), £1,000 (second), £500 (third)
- Mentoring from the Engineers in Business Competition team

Digital interns
Each summer we have a number of digital internships opportunities, funded by Santander, available to students to work for a Surrey Innovation & Enterprise Hub business for 70 hours to help solve their challenges.
