Doug Liddle joins Surrey Space Institute to lead UK Space Agency liaison
The Chair of trade body, UKspace, and founder of In-Space Missions, Doug Liddle, has been appointed as Professor in Practice at the University of Surrey to help lead the newly established Surrey Space Institute.

Doug brings over three decades of experience in the space sector, much of it in industry, and an extensive professional network. He will work alongside the Founding Director of the Surrey Space Institute, Professor Adam Amara, and will lead the University’s engagement with the UK Space Agency and DSIT.
A priority of the Surrey Space Institute will be to support the scaling up of small and medium-sized enterprises in the space sector, where Doug’s track record and experience of building and selling In-Space Missions will complement the University’s legacy, which includes the spinning out of the successful Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL).
Having also worked across different parts of the defence and security sector, for example at the Defence Research Agency (now QinetiQ) and BAE Systems, Doug is also well placed to help the Surrey Space Institute build its work and industry partnerships in this sector.
Through strong industry partnerships, Surrey Space Institute will tackle key global challenges faced by humanity, leading space research, education and training to bring the benefits of space to all. It’s exciting to be a part of it from the outset and I look forward to working closely with the UK Space Agency and other partners, collaborating to build space capabilities, strengthen the economy and bring space technologies to bear on real world problems.Professor Doug Liddle
