Emma Rowsell appointed Chief Student Officer
The University of Surrey has confirmed the appointment of Emma Rowsell (pictured) as Chief Student Officer, following a competitive external recruitment process. Emma, who has filled the role on an interim basis, moves into the permanent role with immediate effect.
Emma Rowsell has spent the past three years at Surrey, progressing from Director of Student Life to Acting Chief Student Officer, and now taking up the permanent role.
Prior to Surrey, she was Director of Student and Campus Life at the University of Nottingham and spent nearly four years as Associate Director of Student Services at the University of Southampton, where she led strategic oversight of wellbeing, disability and inclusion, sport and early years provision across a team of 160 staff. She also served as the university's Designated Safeguarding Lead and chaired its Mental Health Steering Group. Earlier in her career she held programme and change management roles at Southampton and in financial services.
I am thrilled to be taking on this role permanently. Students are at the heart of everything we do at Surrey, and I am looking forward to working closely with the Students' Union to build on what we have already achieved together. There is real momentum here, and I want to make sure every student feels supported, heard and able to make the most of their time at the university.Emma Rowsell, Chief Student Officer
