Five award nominations for Surrey's Games Design degree

The BSc Games Design degree programme at the University of Surrey has been shortlisted as finalists in the ‘TIGA Games Industry Awards 2026’, in the categories of ‘Best Educational Institution’ and ‘Best Educational Initiative’.

The short-listings recognise the good work the games team have been doing to provide a positive, industry-focused student experience, including:

  • Hosting 20+ industry guest talks and workshops from local studios such as Larian and Wargaming
  • Games testing projects with designers 22cans on their recent Masters of Albion title
  • Organising a series of outreach workshops with local colleges and the Surrey Hills Arts partnership.

Three student projects have also been short listed for the TIGA Games Education Awards 2026:

  • Best student game - Ditsy Bitsy! by Phoebe Fan
  • Diversity and inclusion award
  • Excellence in games research

Programme Leader Dr Jon Weinel comments: “We’re thrilled to be finalists again in TIGA’s Games Industry Awards and Games Education Awards.  These awards reflect the hard work from the games team including both staff and students, putting together various events including the Surrey Hills XP workshops with Surrey Hills Arts and a regular programme of industry guest talks, game jams and events working with the local community.  Special congratulations to Phoebe Fan, who made the finalists lists for Best Student Game – a testament to the amazing work being produced by our students on the games course.”

TIGA is the trade association representing the UK’s video games industry. These awards recognise outstanding students, excellent education providers and best practice.

The winners will be announced in November at an awards ceremony in London.
