Surrey professor named one of UK’s top Chinese women

Professor Yang Gao, Associate Dean (International) and Professor of Space Autonomous Systems at the University of Surrey, has been given a prestigious 2019 Mulan Award for her contribution to science, technology and engineering. 

The Mulan Foundation Network, a UK charity which was formally launched in 2013, aims to recognise and honour the achievements of Chinese women in the UK and wider with their annual awards and through building a community of successful Chinese women for networking, mentoring and support as well as giving back to the wider society.

Chair of the Mulan Foundation, Mei Sim Lai OBE DL, said: “Professor Gao’s scientific achievements are outstanding and also very impactful to society. She is clearly an excellent role model to help motivate future generation of female professionals and students in the STEM area.”

Professor Yang Gao said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be recognised by such an important and essential organisation as the Mulan Foundation Network. I feel very strongly that women of all nationalities play a critical role in helping to progress and improve their professions, their communities and the world and we must do all we can to recognise and lift them up.”
