Surrey wins award for best university work placement service

The Employability and Careers Centre at the University of Surrey has won the National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) Award for the Best University Placement Service (Over 500 Placements).

The Employability and Careers Centre have been recognised for their support and approach to maximise placement opportunities. Surrey was described by the judges of the NUE Awards as having 'proactive and varied marketing, demonstrating a belief in employability which last year saw over a 1000 students placed.' Highlights also included the first International Students Employability Week, where the team championed interactive skills sessions from employers, providing over 3,000 undergraduate students with face-to-face skills development.

The judges were extremely impressed by the peer-to-peer coaching scheme. This saw current placement students becoming coaches and supporting more than 350 undergraduate students looking for placements.

Keith Herrmann, Director of Employability and Careers, commented:

“The NUE Award is a reflection of the excellent support offered by the Employability and Careers Centre and our professional training and placement tutors. It celebrates and recognises the achievements of Surrey students who undertake a placement as a key part of their studies."
