Together for Surrey – new hub launches to connect communities and support sustainable living  

Surrey County Council and the University of Surrey’s Institute for Sustainability have launched a new website designed to inspire individuals, communities and businesses to make meaningful changes that will help them save money, improve their health, enhance wellbeing and protect our countryside for generations to come.  

The Together for Surrey platform offers tips and information in one central place and signposts to further support about ten key areas including: 

Keeping your home warm and reducing energy bills

Dealing with the rising cost of living

Earning rewards for taking healthy journeys around Surrey

Taking advantage of on-demand public transport such as Surrey connect

Ways to immerse yourself in nature, help reverse Surrey’s dramatic species loss and boost mental health

Practical ways to save money for a range of groups including new parents.

I’m delighted we are working in collaboration with the University of Surrey's Institute for Sustainability to deliver this central hub.  

We know from our residents that their health, protecting the local countryside and areas of beauty, slowing climate change, and Surrey’s economy are important to them. Finding joined-up solutions to tackle these issues is key, and we believe the Together for Surrey platform will serve as a great tool to provide guidance and an online community space for residents to get involved and drive positive change in Surrey. The goal from the start was to build something different – a platform that helps residents, workers and visitors embrace sustainable living and improve their quality of life. The website has been delivered as part of the Civic Agreement for Surrey – a shared commitment between the county council and local universities which have a joint aim to grow a fairer economy, reduce health inequalities, support sustainable living and build stronger communities. 

Community partners are encouraged to generate content, ensuring the platform stays relevant to the local area and up to date with the latest local news, events, and opportunities across the county to benefit all. Part of the Institute for Sustainability at the University of Surrey, the Innovation Hub connects researchers with businesses, government and communities to create and adopt practical solutions to sustainability challenges.
