The Economics team placed big emphasis on providing us with useful information about different industries. In particular, I found sessions organised by Economics with different potential employers important when they came for an on campus visit ahead of the careers day. These sessions were filled with insights from many different industries that helped me decide on the way forward.

In order to give me the best possible chance of securing a role and establishing a career post-graduation, it made sense to me to have a solid professional experience in an organisation on my CV from early on. The placement year was an opportunity to learn and develop a number of transferable skills including stakeholder management, analysis and reporting, as well as be able to experience and get a sense of a professional working environment.

Previous placements our economics students have taken have included Goldman Sachs, Amazon, the Bank of England, Oxford Economics and the Government Economic Service. Some students who undertake a professional training placement secure a job offer from their placement employer for when they graduate.
