My research project
To see if information theory would allow us to test whether classical stochastic mutation mechanisms can solely describe DNA replication fidelity.Information theory is a branch of mathematics that can model how information changes in a system. As such, in theory, it can be used to test the accuracy of mutation mechanisms. The aim of the research is to see if information theory would allow us to test whether classical stochastic mutations mechanisms can solely describe DNA replication fidelity. If it does not it would supply evidence that the model is insufficient and possible that other mechanisms may cause mutations that are not covered by traditional classical mutations. There are may other possible mechanisms, including the possibility for quantum-based mechanisms.
It is the hope of the research that information theory can impose detectable statistical constraints on DNA mutation mechanisms.
