Juan Diego Dimaté Gómez

Since early in my legal education I turned to the history of law and its theories. While in my country decades of internal armed conflict were officially arriving to an end, these events challenged me since the end of my undergraduate studies at Universidad de los Andes to think about the question of the relation between law and violence. I try to see this relation in history both on my master’s studies at the Geneva Graduate Institute, and current doctoral training period. In my PhD dissertation I trace the way in which a historic figure in the law of armed related to that conflict, that of the guerrilla in the frame of time known as the Cold War, and in the frame of space also known as Latin America. Apart from this early interest in critical theory, I am also interested in how law is represented in art (via the law and literature movement), and particularly in cinema. This aligns with something that caught my attention even before university: how power is ordered by law, and how that is represented in works of popular culture.
