Primary Care Networks Teams

The Surrey Health Economics Centre (SHEC) is currently leading a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Health Services and Delivery Research Programme project on skill mix in Primary Care Networks (PCNs).

This project examines routinely available data sets using quantitative research techniques alongside qualitative methods for in-depth investigation of the teams working within PCNs in England. The research is being undertaken in collaboration with the University of the West of England (UWE).

Two panels are advising the research team. Service users from a variety of practices across Surrey and Bristol sit on the Service User Panel. Representatives from many of the disciplines working within Primary Care Network teams come together on the Professionals and Service Planners Panel.

To improve understanding of the variability in skill-mixes among PCNs in England, how this relates to performance, and how decisions are made regarding the deployment of the new and extended roles in England, to inform future planning and policy.
