Dialogues: Research events series

Dialogues in Sociology: The Surrey Sociology Research Series is designed as a series of events which will run yearly, combining smaller workshops and seminars, and larger public events. Dialogues, we hope, will provide an ongoing commentary on contemporary topics in sociology, criminology and communications. These events will usually be free to attend, and where possible, we will make recordings of the events available on this page.

This series is being directed by Professor Ranjana Das. Please feel free to write to Ranjana to find out more about upcoming or past events at r.das@surrey.ac.uk.

Events open for registration

We don’t currently have any upcoming events. Check back soon for further announcements.

Department events: Work in Progress sessions

These 'Work in Progress' Dialogues events are designed to be a space to discuss colleagues' work currently in development. These are internal to the department only, and not recorded.

Upcoming work in progress, informal sessions -

  • Dimitris Akrivos – 4 May: Transgender media representations and press standards in the post-Leveson era
  • Peter Hemming – 27 April: Becoming citizens of ‘post-secular’ Britain: Religion in primary school life.

Watch recordings of Dialogues events

Dialogues kicks off on 9 February 2022 - and is a new series starting in 2022. As events occur, we will upload recordings (when these are available), so if you have missed an event, do come back to see if the video has been made available.
