Workgroups
ERA Workgroups are vibrant communities of researchers, archivists, musicians, and audio engineers who share a passion for early sound recordings—usually from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. By combining expertise from different fields, these workgroups explore the historical, technical, stylistic, and cultural contexts of early recorded sound.
Membership in a Workgroup is open to all ERA members. By pooling knowledge, skills, and resources, Workgroups help ensure that these rare and often fragile recordings are preserved, studied, and enjoyed by both scholars and listeners today. ERA supports Workgroups by helping organise workshops, lectures, and other events, and encourages them to propose special issues for the Early Recordings Association Journal.
