Professor Avtar Singh Matharu is a Senior Lecturer and Course Director for the MSc in Green Chemistry and Sustainable Industrial Technology. He is based at the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence, an internationally leading academic facility advancing sustainable chemical technologies, processes and products. His work focuses on extracting high-value chemicals from low-value resources and unavoidable wastes, particularly within food supply chains. He has strong expertise in sustainable supply chains, circular economy approaches and biorefinery systems. Professor Matharu has also served as External Examiner for Keele University’s MSc in Environmental Science and Green Technologies and is Editor-in-Chief of Elsevier’s Current Research in Green and Sustainable Chemistry.

Toby is a Research Associate in the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York. He completed his PhD at York in indoor air chemistry modelling under the supervision of Professor Nicola Carslaw. His current research focusses on how indoor air pollutants affect our lungs and asthma exacerbation with Dr. Helen Davies, and how climate change will affect indoor air quality in the future with Professor Carslaw. He is a member of the EU COST Network, Net4CleanAir, where he provides expertise in germicidal ultraviolet light and the impact they have on indoor air quality.
