Facilities and equipment

Our newly built state-of-the-art extended reality suites offer the most current development hardware for virtual, mixed and augmented reality research.

Inside the Lab

The suite is comprised of four dedicated lab spaces, two of which can be joined by a collapsible wall creating one large open space, and two software development rooms.

The two dedicated development rooms house six high-end development PCs for researchers to create virtual environments. The development stations have dedicated virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays in order to facilitate VR “snacking” whilst developing.

The VR lab rooms have been designed to facilitate room-scale VR. Three of the rooms have been furnished with wall-mounted rigs to future-proof the spaces for the requirements of new hardware.

The larger VR lab rooms offer 25m² of floor space to walk around in. The smaller rooms offer 20m². When the collapsible wall is withdrawn a 45m² space becomes available. A specialist back-worn PC offers an untethered VR experience and fully exploits the benefit of the large space.
