Asylum Seeker Bursary
The University of Surrey is pleased to be offering financial support to those seeking sanctuary in the UK. This award has been developed to provide asylum seeking students with greater access routes to the University.
About
For 2025 entry, the Asylum Seeker Bursary will provide a bursary per academic year for the duration of a student’s studies towards tuition fees and maintenance. This will be awarded to one undergraduate student who is an asylum seeker, has Indefinite Leave to Remain, or has humanitarian protection without access to Student Finance. The successful applicant will be awarded the bursary as follows:
- A tuition fee waiver (up to a total of £22,500 per academic year). Under this waiver, students will be classed as international students, but the tuition fee amount (up to £22,500 per academic year) will be waived
- A maintenance bursary of up to £1,500 for the first year of study.
Please note that application to the Asylum Seeker Bursary is competitive and not all applications will be successful. Final decisions on bursary applications will be made by a panel so please be aware that you may be invited to attend an interview to discuss your bursary application.
