The Burton Scholarship
One successful undergraduate applicant will receive £4,000 per year for up to four years of academic study.
About
The Burton Scholarship will support one undergraduate student with their studies at the University of Surrey by providing £12,000 (£4,000 per academic year for up to three years of study). An additional £4,000 will be given should a Professional Training Year or integrated masters year be taken.
The terms of the scholarship listed above are at the discretion of the donor and may be subject to change before awarding.

Eligibility criteria
To apply for this scholarship, the applicant must:
- Be a Home/UK student
- Be a first-year student studying any Undergraduate degree at the University of Surrey, beginning September 2026 (please note that any students who will be in a Foundation Year during 2026/27 are not eligible)
- Have a household income of less than £40,000.
Please note that we will need to verify your household income through the Student Finance England portal and, for us to do so, you will need the following:
- To be in receipt of Student Loan support from Student Finance England/Student Loans Company.
To give your permission for your household income information to be shared with the University of Surrey. To do so, you can contact the Student Loans Company directly on 0300 100 0607 (open Monday – Friday, 8am – 7pm) and ask for your information to be shared. Please note that this process can take several weeks to update, depending on how busy the Student Loans Company is, therefore we recommend updating your sharing permissions as soon as you submit an application, so as not to cause any delays during the application

To apply for the 2026/27 Burton Scholarship, please complete the online application form.

During this time, the team may ask for further information or clarification on details you have shared – this is to gather information as part of the review process and isn’t an indication as to the success of your application.
