IASS Annual Symposium and Spatial Structures Conference 2020/21

Inspiring the next generation

We hosted the Annual Symposium of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS) and the 7th International Conference on Spatial Structures here at Surrey.

Dates: 23 - 27 August 2021

About the event

Join the worldwide community of researchers and engineers cooperating at the interface of structures and architecture.

The International Conference on Spatial Structures is an event that has taken place every nine years since 1966 and has been organised by the Spatial Structures Research Centre of the University of Surrey.

The seventh conference of the series was held in the summer of 2021, as a joint event with the Annual Symposium of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS). Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and after very careful consideration, the conference was an entirely virtual event.

The IASS symposia have been successfully held for over 50 years in various countries such as Brazil, China, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, South Korea, Spain, USA, Australia and Switzerland.

Spatial Structures Research Centre

Founded by Professor Zygmunt Stanislaw Makowski in 1963, the core aim of the Spatial Structures Research Centre is to conduct research in the design, analysis and construction of spatial structures, as well as educating the spatial structures practitioners of the future.
