Dr Tara has been appointed a Technical Economist and Dr Dhamija is a Research Economist.

Professor Ricardo Nunes was their PhD adviser and said: “Dr Tara and Dr Dhamija’s appointment to the Bank of England is an amazing achievement. It reflects the exceptional skills and hard work of Dr Tara and Dr Dhamija. This was also a joint effort from several colleagues at Surrey, and special mention must go to our colleagues in macro econometrics, Professor Vasco Gabriel, Professor Cristiano Cantore and Dr Alessio Volpicella, whose expertise was key for such appointments.”

The research and PhD teaching offered at Surrey in macroeconomics and monetary economics allows our PhD students to work alongside world-experts so they can obtain the skills and tools to achieve such prestigious appointments.

Dr Tara commented: "The School of Economics has been very conducive to my research and my career. Every person has been welcoming every time I sought advice. I am indebted to my supervisory team [Professor Ricardo Nunes, Professor Vasco Gabriel and Dr Alessio Volpicella]. Professor Nunes especially has been a mentor every step of the way, from teaching the nitty-gritties of the subject to navigating through successes and failures. I will always cherish the memories of the times I spent there."

Dr Dhamija added: "I'm very grateful to my advisers, Professor Ricardo Nunes and Professor Cristiano Cantore, for being excellent teachers and mentors, and for inspiring me to pursue my current line of research. My time in the School of Economics was made especially meaningful by the support and warm collegiality of all faculty members and colleagues. Big thanks to Surrey for the enriching years I spent there."
