Barclays expert shares employability insights with SBS students
On 11 February 2026, postgraduate and undergraduate students at Surrey Business School (SBS) attended an engaging employability workshop for a career in the finance sector, delivered by an investment banking professional from Barclays Investment Bank.

Fareez Faiz, Assistant Vice President at Barclays Investment Bank and a Surrey BSc in Accounting and Finance graduate, provided an in-depth overview of career pathways within the finance sector, with particular emphasis on investment banking. Drawing on his professional experience, he outlined practical guidance on CV preparation, common pitfalls to avoid, strategies for targeting graduate roles in a highly competitive market, and approaches to strengthening applications and interview performance.
The session, organised by Dr Christos Mavrovitis, attracted a strong audience of undergraduate and postgraduate students, especially those interested in careers in investment banking, private banking, and wealth management. The Q&A session was particularly interactive, with students raising a wide range of questions on career planning, skill development, and navigating recruitment processes.
This event reflects Surrey Business School’s continued commitment to integrating academic learning with professional practice, providing students with direct engagement with industry practitioners and current market perspectives.
