British Psychological Society approves new degree programme

The BPS has accredited this programme against its rigorous requirements for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the Society. It is only with accredited programmes that students can pursue a career in psychology or in the wider psychological workforce after they graduate.

Achieving BPS accreditation is a rigorous process and it means that prospective students can be sure our programme meets the highest standards and quality. The BPS accreditation is a hallmark of quality that both students and employers recognise and value. We tirelessly work to ensure our programmes optimise the careers opportunities available to our students.” 

Providing students successfully complete our Criminology and Psychology BSc with a minimum of a 2:2, they’ll meet the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS). This is a prerequisite for many postgraduate courses, where students can train to become a chartered psychologist. Students will also have the academic experience needed to apply for graduate membership with the BPS. 

BPS-accreditation is a high-quality benchmarking process that is defined and delivered in partnership with psychologists and other highly skilled and experienced psychological practitioners. Education providers work with BPS to ensure quality standards in education and training are met. 

Our programmes in both criminology and psychology are incredibly popular and the University is pleased to offer a joint honours degree and looks forward to welcoming our first Criminology and Psychology BSc students in September 2025.
