Distinguished Surrey veterinary neurologist awarded MBE
Professor Clare Rusbridge, a distinguished veterinary neurologist at the University of Surrey, has been appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire in this year’s King's Birthday Honours list.

Recognising her contribution to animal welfare and the veterinary profession, this honour tops an already remarkable career for Professor Rusbridge, who continues to combine her work at the Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine, alongside her role as a senior neurologist at Wear Referrals, a small animal hospital in County Durham.
In addition to these accomplishments, Professor Rusbridge has also devoted much of her career to advancing understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of painful neurological disorders, including Chiari-like malformation, syringomyelia and other diseases causing neuropathic pain, in companion animals. She has authored more than 160 scientific papers and book chapters, helping to transform awareness and clinical management of these often-under-recognised conditions.
Alongside her clinical and academic work, Professor Rusbridge has made substantial contributions to animal welfare through charitable and advocacy roles. She is Patron of Cavalier Matters, a charity supporting dogs affected by Chiari-like malformation and syringomyelia, Patron of Cure4DM, which supports research and awareness for degenerative myelopathy in dogs, and Trustee of the Dog Breeding Reform Group, which campaigns to improve canine health and welfare through evidence-based breeding reform. In addition, Professor Rusbridge also acts as a specialist advisor to StreetVet in supporting veterinary care for the pets of people experiencing homelessness.
Professor Rusbridge is also deeply committed to widening access to veterinary neurological education. Through freely available educational resources, including owner information materials, websites, and her educational YouTube channel, she provides information and support for general practitioners, specialist veterinarians, veterinary students, and pet owners worldwide.
