Professor Amelia Hadfield strengthens SII-DUFE ties on campus visit
Professor Amelia Hadfield, Associate Vice-President for External Engagement, visited the Surrey International Institute at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (SII-DUFE) from 15 to 17 September.

The visit aimed to strengthen the collaborative partnership between Surrey and DUFE, with a focus on strategic development, curriculum enhancement, and student experience. During her visit, Professor Hadfield held a series of meetings with senior colleagues at SII-DUFE.
Discussions centred on advancing the Institute's strategic direction, including ongoing curriculum development and the maintenance of high academic standards. Both sides shared updates on current initiatives and exchanged ideas for further strengthening the partnership. Student experience remains central to the collaboration between the University of Surrey and SII-DUFE. Professor Hadfield attended the certificate presentation ceremony for the 2025 Freshman Induction Project, where she met with summer school and student society representatives. She also spoke with students about ongoing initiatives, encouraging them to participate in international exchange programmes.
My visit reinforced the long-standing partnership between the University of Surrey and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, paving the way for new opportunities in teaching, research, and student development. Professor Amelia HadfieldProfessor Hadfield highlighted the importance of intercultural communication and academic exchange in broadening students' horizons and fostering deeper cooperation between student groups at both institutions.
A highlight of the visit was a meeting with SII-DUFE's first cohort of PhD students, followed by an online workshop on the joint PhD programme. Faculty from both Surrey and DUFE discussed co-supervision, quality assurance, and research collaboration.
