Sustainability Mark re-launches at Surrey

Sustainable Surrey have joined forces with the Surrey Students’ Union to re-launch the Sustainability Mark.

The Sustainability Mark is an annual sustainable awards scheme for societies and clubs. It provides students with five sustainable actions they can take to reduce their group’s negative environmental impacts and empowers them to make a positive difference to sustainability at the University, as well as in the local community.

Actions include encouraging members to live more sustainably, and running society/club activities in a more environmentally conscious way.

During it’s launch year in 2024-2025, 14 different societies and clubs completed the scheme and achieved a Sustainability Mark at the Union and Colours Ball. Successful actions taken included:

  • Running wellbeing events for local care homes
  • Sharing advice on how to live sustainably on social media
  • Organising bake sales to raise money for charities
  • Getting involved with the University’s Sustainability Week

Societies and Clubs are now invited to get involved in the Mark for its second year. To get involved, email the Sustainability Team

The University of Surrey is committed to embedding the UN sustainable development goals into everything it does. The Sustainability Mark encourages students to take climate action (SDG 13) by providing them with resources and support to reduce their negative environmental impact.
