University Global Partnership Network welcomes the University of Wollongong
The University of Wollongong has joined the University Global Partnership Network (UGPN). The UGPN is a consortium that advances collaborative research and education comprising the University of Surrey, UK; North Carolina State University, USA; the University of São Paulo, Brazil; and the University of Wollongong, Australia.
Now spanning four continents, the UGPN’s visibility and influence will expand accordingly.
The relationship with Wollongong is longstanding, with several interesting collaborative projects previously undertaken, ongoing collaborations between academics and a bilateral dual PhD agreement between the University of Wollongong and the University of Surrey.
We are pleased to welcome Wollongong to the Network as our fourth member and are looking forward to the mutual benefits and impact that will be achieved through our cooperation.Dr Amy Conger, Vice Provost for Global Engagement, North Carolina State University
Wollongong joins at a fortuitous time as the Network’s annual seed fund, the Research Collaboration Fund (RCF), is now open. This opportunity will allow researchers and academics from across all four institutions to develop and collaborate on far-reaching and impactful projects, designed around the 2026 theme of ‘Clean and Reliable Energy Solutions’ and specifically addressing global challenges as highlighted by the Sustainable Development Goals.
We are very excited for Wollongong to be joining the UGPN, a small and agile network of like-minded universities that works well and benefits the member institutions, as well as the global community more broadly.Professor Max Lu, Vice-Chancellor and President, University of Wollongong
In order to enable Wollongong colleagues to engage as fully as possible with this year’s Research Collaboration Fund, two additional online webinars were arranged. The first to introduce the research that Wollongong is conducting that aligns with this year’s Fund theme of ‘Clean and Reliable Energy Solutions’; the second, a chance for colleagues from across the Network to ask questions about the logistics, parameters and criteria of the call. The UGPN Secretariat is now eagerly awaiting the submission of a spectrum of projects from across all four institutions.
We welcome with great enthusiasm the University of Wollongong to the University Global Partnership Network. The University of São Paulo values collaborative initiatives that foster impactful research and global engagement, and we are confident that Wollongong's strong commitment to innovation and societal challenges will further strengthen the Network. We look forward to advancing meaningful partnerships and generating knowledge that contributes to sustainable development and shared global priorities.Professor Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, Provost for International Cooperation, University of São Paulo
