Reimagining Tradwives in the Global South: Negotiation of Choice, Agency and Resistance among Housewife Influencers on India’s Platform EconomyThis project attempts to broaden the framework of tradwife aesthetics by situating it within the structured inequalities of the Global South. It aims to encapsulate how Indian housewife influencers perform romanticised femininity akin to the global tradwife phenomena, often embedded within caste hierarchy and hegemonic religious ideologies. The project further explores how digital divides and digital inclusion in India along with intersections of caste, class, and status, enable or impede the participation of women in creative labour. Challenging the normative portrayal of transformative technologies as promised liberation, it demonstrates the inadvertent reproduction of social inequalities through universalised trends, aesthetics, and algorithms.
