About
Biography
Kristin joined the University of Surrey in 2024 and is Director of Student Support and Lead for Admissions in the School of Medicine. She previously served as Lead for Professional Development.
She completed a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2000, researching the cell biology of hepatic disease, before undertaking postdoctoral research at Cancer Research UK investigating epidermal stem cells.
In 2006, Kristin joined Queen Mary University of London, where she progressed to several education leadership roles, including Head of Graduate Entry Medicine, Director of Education at the Blizard Institute, and Programme Co-Lead for the MSc in Regenerative Medicine. She also chaired the Blizard Education Committee, supporting the development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across campus-based and distance-learning formats.
Kristin became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2018 and Professor in Biomedical Education in 2022. She has served as an external examiner for the University of Manchester, University of Bristol, and University of Sussex.
Kristin’s biomedical research focused on the regulation of epithelial stem cells during tissue maintenance, wound healing and disease. Her current educational interests include student support, inclusion and widening participation, particularly supporting students from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in medicine and biomedical research. She is committed to fostering supportive, equitable and inclusive learning environments in which all students can thrive.
