Measurement and Assessment of Lung-Deposited Surface Area Concentrations in Urban Air: Evaluating the Impact of Green Infrastructure and Instrumental AccuracyLung Deposited Surface Area (LDSA) concentration is an air quality metric that measures the total surface area of airborne particles (per unit volume of air) that is likely to deposit in the respiratory tract upon inhalation. LDSA is highly sensitive to ultrafine particles. While these tiny particles contribute very little to the total mass of pollution, they provide a massive amount of surface area that interacts with the body.
Research aims:
- Evaluate the impact of green infrastructure interventions on LDSA concentrations in different environments
- Assess the temporal variability of LDSA concentration in a street canyon over one year
- Comparison of equipment measuring capabilities using synthetic aerosols in the lab
- Assessment of LDSA concentration exposure for vulnerable groups: babies in prams in urban environments.
