Analysing biodiverse habitats and connectivity across Surrey AONB

High resolution satellite data has been used to monitor diversity and public access in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Overview

Funded by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) as part of its Test & Trial project ‘Making space for Nature’, this study uses satellite images to monitor biodiversity, enhance solar organic carbon sequestration and assess public access in the Surrey Hills AONB, which is local to the University of Surrey. The project contributes both to the ‘Life on Land’ SDG and the UK government’s 25 Year Environment Plan.
