"I like that my course covers a wide array of business functions as I do not have a specific career pathway in mind yet and so I get to experience and have a wider understanding of all aspects of business!
When I do make up my mind (hopefully after my placement) I’ll be able to tailor my modules to fit my preferences.
I frequently attend activities from many societies including the Malaysian Society. Society events always give me something to look forward to! This is especially the case during the holidays as I do not get to go back home often so it can get a bit lonely. But the societies always have something going on that I can join. For example, the Malaysian Society had a Chinese New Year dinner where I was surrounded with other Malaysians and delicious food which made my day. A lot of my favourite memories have been made during society events!
I lived at Hazel Farm during my first year and when I first arrived I was a bit scared since I had never really shared a bathroom or lived independently before. But I was lucky enough to have some wonderful housemates who taught me how to use the buses, helped me get comfortable in a foreign environment and they even celebrated my birthday with me because I had no family here. I felt very comfortable in my house and my housemates and neighbours are among the closest friends that I have now. If I could, I would do it all over again! I think living with housemates is the best thing about student accommodation. It is like having a built-in family! Through our late-night talks and flat dinners, we created strong bonds that I honestly hope will last forever.
"Guildford is my home away from home, and the people here are so welcoming and friendly."
Guildford is my home away from home, and the people here are so welcoming and friendly. It is such a lovely town with a rich history, not to mention the amazing shopping. Since Guildford is around a 35-minute train ride away from London, I feel so connected. It is very easy for my friends and me to plan weekend trips anywhere. At the rate I am exploring England, I might even have visited more places than the locals!
Some of my best moments at Surrey would have to be when I’m working as a student ambassador. When I lead campus tours or support events, I feel like I have contributed to the University somehow. I gain a new appreciation for the campus and the efforts that the University puts in to make it a better environment for students. I also feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I get feedback from teachers and students that they truly enjoyed chatting to me and they appreciated me helping them."
