Undergraduate
We accept the Chinese National University Entrance Examination (Gaokao) for direct entry to Year 1 UG programmes. Please see the table below for our grade equivalencies:

Where there is a subject-specific requirement, students should achieve the same % in that subject (e.g. if Maths is a requirement of a BBB subject, the student should achieve 74% in Maths). Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate and IELTS required.

Undergraduate pathway programmes
If you do not meet the direct entry requirements for a course, you can apply to study an International Foundation Year programme at the University of Surrey International Study Centre. Upon successful completion, you can progress to an undergraduate degree at the University of Surrey.
You can choose to study one of the following routes:
- Business, Economics, Law and Social Sciences Foundation Year
- Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences Foundation Year
- Life Sciences Foundation Year

Postgraduate
To apply for one of our postgraduate courses that require a UK 2:1, the grade requirement depends on the institution you have studied at in China. Our usual requirement is between 70% and 75% overall.
For courses that require a UK 2:2, you must achieve between 65% and 70% overall, depending on the institution at which you have studied.
Postgraduate pathway programmes
If you do not meet the direct entry requirements for a course, you can apply for a Pre-Masters programme offered by the University of Surrey International Study Centre. Upon successful completion, you can progress to a masters degree at the University of Surrey.

English language requirements and courses
All our students require a good standard of English language to be eligible to study with us. If you don’t meet our requirements, we offer intensive pre-sessional English language courses, designed to take you to the level of English ability and skill required for your studies.
