Events

Are you curious about the night sky? Have you ever wanted to see planets, galaxies, and nebulae through a telescope, or learn about the latest discoveries in astronomy? Now’s your chance!

We run monthly events from October to March, on Wednesdays from 7:15pm to 9:15pm. Each evening begins with an engaging research talk delivered by a Surrey academic, followed by stargazing (weather permitting).

Guests will have the opportunity to observe the Moon, planets, and other Solar System objects through small telescopes provided by members of the Guildford Astronomical Society. We also use Seestar smart telescopes, controlled via tablets and smartphones, to capture and display live images of galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters, allowing everyone to enjoy deep-sky objects together.

Our 16-inch observatory telescope is currently undergoing maintenance and may not be available during some events.

If the weather is cloudy, alternative indoor activities, such as a guided tour of the night sky, will be offered.

There are no events planned in the Summer. Our events will resume in October. Booking links will be published on this page 2 weeks prior to each event.

Every year we are part of World Space Week that runs in October.

We take over Guildford High Street with interactive simulations, telescopes and all things space. We even run a SEN-friendly space for those needing a calmer environment.

It's a chance for local residents to engage with our staff and students and discover the exciting research we are part of here at Surrey.
