Join us for the Surrey New Writers Festival, featuring exciting interactive panel discussions with some of the finest authors, scriptwriters, literary agents and publishers. This year’s event includes the Surrey Poetry Festival ‘Poetry Stage’ and will feature special guest poets throughout the day.

Our panellists have been involved with founding original projects in print, online and performance. Join us for discuss what it takes to launch and importantly sustain an independent start-up.

12:45pmPanel 2: gathering a creative support systemMany artists write in a solitary environment, but the life of a writer often depends on being part of a creative community and support system, whether it’s to collaborate professionally, to give feedback on each other’s work, or to come to events like this one to hear about new ideas. This panel features emerging and establish writers who will talk about their experiences finding their support systems in places such as MA/MFA programmes, reading series and editorial teams.
1:45pmLunchtime workshopJoin writing coach Melissa Addey for an interactive workshop titled The Thriving Author.

2:45pmPanel 3: writing for television and filmJoin us for a panel discussion of how to think visually while developing a television or film script. Our panellists have experience in various aspects of pitching, writing, and producing work for the screen. We’ll discuss how to approach various outlets for visual storytelling, including online formats.

4pmPanel 4: PR and marketing -  a discussion with agents, publishers, editors and professionals

There are many mediums in which to pursue publication. Are you interested to learn more about marketing yourself, or are you interested in getting involved in the publishing industry as an agent, editor, or marketing professional? We’ll discuss these and other topics with our panellists who work in the creative industries who work in a variety of ways with

6:30pmEvening soireeJoin us for an evening of performances and readings from up and coming journals and writers.

In addition to the above, our poetry stage will be host to readings and performances from some of the most exciting, thoughtful, and questioning poets in the UK between 11:30am-5pm.

  • £25 festival pass - public
  • £20 festival pass - student concession.

The festival pass encompasses all of the sessions and includes free entry to the poetry stage. A booking fee of 50 pence applies to all tickets.
